So, It has been a long while since this trip, but I would like to show some pictures the time I visited Atlanta last March. Nothing good like getting away and dropping anchor from the SS Stress. Well, the main reason I went to Atlanta was to see FKA Twigs perform at the Coca Cola Roxy during her Body High Tour with a good friend of mine. She was my bucket list for a long time and boy howdy, she delivered. Stayed at a really nice hotel and vegged out. But me and my friend also went to a handful of record stores that she picked out as well as the aquarium and Coca-Cola World. Also ate great food. My friend is a champ for finding these record stores for me as that is what I would like to talk about and she took some of these photos too. I am a staunch defender of supporting small businesses and I encourage anyone to keep their local stores open by giving them your hard earned dollars. Better that than having Amazon warehouses running amok. Thought I would post here since some of the experiences were music related.
Criminal Records
Probably the largest store out of the three we went to. I immediately said “Wow!” when I entered the store and was giddy as hell. They had the most popular selections and new releases, but I did cop one record. The URGH album by Mandy, Indiana, which was an album I blogged about was there. I wasn’t on planning on seeing and not planning on acquiring, but I was persuaded to get one to help out the store. I like that their used section was called the “pre-loved” section.
Wax ‘N Facts
This storefront has first opened its doors at 1976 and is the oldest one out of the three places. I was in awe of the gargantuan selection of records that I have no idea what to cop. We had to leave since it was getting dusty, but their selection was exceptional. The whole time I was there I wished that my musical knowledge was vast to appreciate all of these used selections. Their personalized labels had a charm to them too. Also, loved their logo, since I love owls.
Moods Music
My favorite store out of the three was so cool in aesthetic. They had an extensive collection of hip-hop, soul, and blues. I was able to find two records that I didn’t have in my collection, which were ORQUÍDEAS by Kali Uchis and Diamond Life by Sade. These are two great records that are both similar in mood and beauty. While purchasing Diamond Life and showed the cashier my Sade record tote bag, he mentioned Sade’s son visits the store a lot and says it’s his favorite record store! I thought that was really neat.
FKA Twigs
It was cold getting to the Coca Cola Roxy to see FKA Twigs, but getting there was so worth it. We were close to the front at the lateral area by the rails. People went nuts when she first came out in this scantily clad outfit like her dance team was wearing. Must I say, it was a very zesty, but magnificent performance. She closed out with “Cellophane”, which is my favorite song from her thus far.
That was it! We went to the World of Coca Cola and the Atlanta Aquarium and had a blast! I have other music central travel blog experiences I might share on here. Thanks to my friend for taking the best snaps on some of these!
